USALS setup
Added by Philip Reynolds about 10 years ago
Hi,
for DVB-S rotor use, would like to know how one should enter the longitude/latitude and sat position in the advanced page for East to West?
Thanks.

in advanced enter your amount of satellites you want to receive in orbital positions.
for each orbital position you enable usals by selecting it in the rotor drop down box.
fill in the data in that new page.
positive numbers for east and negative for west.

Hi! Does this mean that USALS rotor support is working now as it should? For example, I would need 0.8W, 13E, 16E. 28.2E and 39E. My dish and rotor are configured perfectly, everything is working the way it should using STB or MediaPortal, DVBViewer.
Can you please tell me how should I do this here? Any known bugs or limitations?
I'm considering to move from MediaPortal to Openelec to get rid of W7, but I need rotor support.
A detailed guide would be so much helpful!
Thank you!

Hi Gary,
thanks for the info. I did manage to figure it out over the weekend, but it's good that the info is here for others.
Gurabli- it does work, but sometimes it can be a bit twitchy when setting up.
Best regards,
Phil.

Thanks Philip!
Can you please explain to me in few steps how to setup for the mentioned satellites (0.8W, 13E, 16E. 28.2E and 39E)?
I have the proper coordinates for USALS, of course.
Please help me, it would so good if this would work!

Hello Gurabli,
Last night I had all of the muxes scanned, and services mapped for each of the satellites I use. But, unfortunately as soon as I chose one of the services via Xbmc, tvheadend went nuts. The dish turned to the correct position, tvheadend chose the correct mux, but there was no signal strength and no picture on Xbmc. The stream connection to Xbmc status was 'testing' and Xbmc would drop the connection to tvheadend every minute or so. Bugger.
So, I retract my statement of saying 'it works' to 'needs more testing'. Did you USALS working with mediaportal?
Best regards,
Phil.

Hello Phil,
thanks for the update! I'm sorry to hear this, I was hoping it is working fine and I can move to OpenElec. I hope this will be fixed soon, it should be not a problem to fix I believe. I remember reading a thread about this where different options are described and there seems to be a problem with timing or something? Will look for this thread.
In MediaPortal USALS is not working properly, but GOTOX is quite fine. However, I used DVBViewer to move the dish using USALS to each sat, then I stored the position in MediaPortal and scanned, then moved to the next sat with DVBViewer, and so for all sats. It is working perfectly in MP. I had to adjust tunner timeout to a higher value as it could take some time to reach 38E from 0,8W but it is perfect.
I hope this will be fine in TVH too, Windows is just annoying.

This is the link with some suggestions. Since you already have everything installed, I suggest you to try out option 2, perhaps it would work!
