August DVB-T210
Added by derp derp over 10 years ago
Hi. Was wondering if this was compatible with tvheadend as there's not much information from users about this device. Does anyone have one? Is it working well with DVB-T2 channels and HD channels?
please let me know! thanks!

Hi Crazy Cat. Thanks for the great work you put into this. I have a question, I bought an August T210 but your patch did not work after I compiled media_build and included your patches. My device has the following USB IDs:
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0572:c688 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc.
on the box it says its a v2, I don't know if this helps.
This is on a raspberry pi.
Thanks for the hard work and help!

This is Geniatech T230 - si2148 a20/si2168 based.
https://github.com/crazycat69/linux_media/commits/latest
but look like not work need more research for si2148 tuner control.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Olli Salonen about 10 years ago
Hi Crazy Cat,
Look at my Si2147-A30 support patch that just went into media_tree. It was necessary to send command 14 00 02 07 01 00 to the tuner, otherwise it did not lock. 01 00 was the default value on Si2158 and Si2157, so this did not change their behaviour. Maybe Si2148 requires this as well?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Crazy Cat about 10 years ago
look like work but need more testing :)
used si2158 firmware.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Mark Antonio about 10 years ago
Hi Crazy Cat, if its possible to provide these patches for media_build I would gladly test these out!
I already tried to patch media build with these patches but its failing!
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Crazy Cat about 10 years ago
maybe you try master branch (daily packed in tar.bz2)
try media_build from git
./build --git git://linuxtv.org/media_tree.git devel-3.17-rc6
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Mark Antonio about 10 years ago
having issues with that:

I have backported you patch to the media build and the driver loaded properly. The issue was that it did not register any frontend, I guess there are missing dependencies in media build atm.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but how is this patch applied?
I have the T220A and an old O2 Joggler that is currently running tvheadend (Xubuntu) with 2x Haupauge DVB-T USB sticks.
Do I have to re-build a new Xubuntu installation, or can the patches just be 'applied' so my system can stay up and running?
I apologise if it's explained somewhere else and I've missed the information.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Oliver Thomas about 10 years ago
Ok, I've just tried the first step for applying the patch (from the CrazyCat tbs-drivers BitBucket page):
sudo apt-get install git build-essential linux-headers-generic \ ncurses-dev libproc-processtable-perl fakeroot\
Unfortunately I get the following error:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package ncurses-dev
What is required to resolve this?
Again, I apologise if this should be straightforward. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I have a stick which says it is an August T210 v2.0. It is idVendor=0572, idProduct=c688. So using the suggestions on this page I did a build against devel-3.17-rc6 with crazycat's two patches:-

Any ideas what needs changing to get a lock?

Now you can apply this patches to master branch.
For DVB-T2 need set delivery system as T2.
Linux DVB-T2 tuning problems - http://blog.palosaari.fi/2014/09/linux-dvb-t2-tuning-problems.html
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Deri James about 10 years ago
Thank you, that blog is very interesting, and is certainly the cause of my problems. I too use vlc to watch TV’ but I use a zap type channels.conf to act as a play list. This is the problem since the zap format has no way of differenciating between dvb-t and dvb-t2 for tuning purposes. So any application which depends on channels.conf has no way of telling the stick which dvb-t protocol to use, and since the new driver no longer attempts to use dvb-t2 if dvb-t fails, as the older driver does, this means that the zap format is now obsolete.
I decided to use vic's .xspf play list format and updated a program called channels2xspf (which handles dvb-c type channels.conf) to handle UK dvb-t/2 as well. The reason I use the -O CHANNEL with dvbv5-scan, is because I already have a program which sorts the lines into the channel number order used in UK digital television.
Having got this all working, running vlc with a xspf file sorted in the desired order, it seems that this new USB stick 0572:c688 has a problem with dvb-t2 broadcasts. It is as though it has less sensitivity than the previous version 1f4d:d220 because there is considerable picture breakup when viewing a channel on any dvb-t2 mux. Using the other stick with the same aerial feed and the same xspf file, the dvb-t2 pictures are perfect. During the picture break up vlc outputs these types of error:-

With the older stick no errors are shown. Has anyone else noticed a drop in sensitivity in using this new stick?

This is no sensitivity problem. Look like need set proper TS clock mode (inverted TS Clk). Same issue fixed for cxd2820r-based T220,T220A.

Hi Crazy Cat,
Will your patches for T220A work on media_build? I applied the patches and compiled, the adapter can be found but scanning is failing.
If this works I will be able to test VHF for you.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Deri James about 10 years ago
I can see reference to cfg.ts_clock_inv in cxd2820r_t2.c which controls a bit in one of the registers, but this does not help in looking at si2168.c since this appears to be writing bytes across the bus and I have not found anything which explains what those bytes mean. So I don't know what to change to test whether inverting the TS clock mode will fix the problem.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Andy Brown about 10 years ago
Ah. Now I see why I'm having problems. I'm trying to set up my first tvheadend backend on a pi with either Raspbian or openelec. I specifically bought the DVB-T210 as it was on the supported list and I see I also have the 'V2'. Oh well.
So far, I can't see the tuner at all in tvheadend so I'll dig back through the thread and figure out what I'm missing.
I'm quite new to Linux so probably haven't got a great deal to offer other than thanks for your efforts so far in getting this working (at least until I get a little more up to speed).

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Olli Salonen about 10 years ago
Hi Deri,
Does the stick work ok under Windows (if you have a possibility to check)? It could be very helpful for the developer if you could take a USB sniff when watching a DVB-T2 channel under Windows. There's a free-to-use-for-33-days software called USBlyzer that can be used for taking a sniff for example.
I'm pretty sure this is about one small parameter that needs to be set in a certain way. When we find out that, it's easy for CrazyCat to finalize the patch.
Cheers,
-olli

Will your patches for T220A work on media_build? I applied the patches and compiled, the adapter can be found but scanning is failing.
If this works I will be able to test VHF for you.please provide more info - dmesg on init and scanning, scan utils output (scan-s2 prefered)
I am currently away from home, I can only provide full dmesg (bootup + scanning), I will provide further detail when I am back, This is on a raspberry pi!

I'm afraid that the way you took the capture means that the initialization of the device is not in the capture. There's an option in USBlyzer to capture hot-plugged devices. Select that, start the capture, insert the stick, start the software to view TV and stop the capture after 1 sec or so. That should be enough. Thanks!

I'd assumed the "missing" setup was in the instructions to switch to a dvb-t2 channel, sorry. Here's the capture from just inserting the stick, not starting the viewer.

Hi,
I did not have time to look at the latest capture yet, but typically you init the device when you try to use it for the first time - ie. the first tune. Channel change inside the same software will not init the device, it will just modify the necessary parameters in order to tune the device to another frequency.
Just in case, if you have everything ready there now, take the capture so that you also start the viewer before stopping the capture.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Deri James about 10 years ago
Ok, this one contains an init followed by tune to the dvb-t2 channel "ITV HD" details in previous post.
Hope this helps.
