Which NAS to choose for Tvheadend?
Added by Jay Tee over 11 years ago
Hello!
I have browsed this forum for some info but as usual, most threads are about problems and solutions for existing setups...
I'm about to buy a NAS for the usual purposes i.e. media-/file-server, FTP, Torrent client etc etc. I also want to run a TV-backend for my XBMC clients on the same hardware. I have tried to use RaspberryPi without getting it stable. Right now I have one Tvheadend backend for DVB-T/T2 on my Openelec HTPC and another one for DVB-S/S2 on a Ubuntu PC, both running fine.
Which NAS should I buy to get a stable Tvheadend setup, that is proven to work? My receiver cards are:
- Hauppauge PCTV NanoStick T2 HD 290e , DVB-T/T2
- TeVii S660 , DVB-S/S2
A bonus is if OScam can be run on the same box. Right now I'm using RaspberryPi as a cardserver.
Hope somebody can give me a kick in the right direction.

I have this one http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010610516/hp-proliant-n40l-microserver-amd-turion-ii-1-5-2mb-4gb-0gb/
I use the machine as tv server and fileserver.
--Openelec as os with tvheadend addon--
- 2x sundtek dvd s2 sticks
--proftpd addon--
- rutorrent addon
Works perfect!

Thanks for the tip. Do you run virtual machine(s) in the box?
I already have one miditower with a ITX mobo and i5 cpu that I hope to get rid of (replace by a NAS). At least to get rid of Windows... An option would be to install FreeNAS or simply Ubuntu with appropriate addons.
More functioning examples out-of-the-box are welcome!
Cheers
