Watching TV Headend Channels in Prog DVB

Added by Kev S about 12 years ago

When trying to add a TV Headend playlist into ProgDVB you may find that it just crashes (or rather just closes) on you - this seams to be because it can't handle MKV Containers.

Therefore you will need to follow the following steps:-

  1. Firstly make sure you have HTS Tvheadend 3.2 or later installed - the earlier versions are a lot more temperamental and buggy
  2. Login to the TV Headend Interface
  3. Click "Configuration"
  4. Click "Digital Video Recorder"
  5. Change "Media container" to "TS (pass-through)" (You may wish to create a new profile for recordings where this is MKV, the default must be "TS (pass-through)")
  6. Click "Save Configuration"
  7. Open Prog DVB
  8. Click Settings
  9. Click TV Sources
  10. Click "IPTV Client"
  11. Click "Add IPTV Provider"
  12. Enter an appropriate Name: (e.g. Freeview)
  13. Enter your Tvheadend Playlist URL: (e.g. http://TVHEADENDIP:9981/playlist/channels where TVHEADENDIP is the IP Address of your TV Headend server)
  14. Choose the codepage (UTF-8?)
  15. Click OK
  16. Click OK
  17. Click on a channel name! (The first time you tune into a radio service may result in a long delay while it works out it's not a TV channel).

Updating the Channel List

Limitations
  • No EPG
  • No Channel numbers
  • No Channel logos (copied from Tvheadend - it may match some channels)
  • When switching Multiplex ProgDVB will sometimes say "Error Timeout!" - Simply select the channel again.
