Can I copy a recording to another computer and play it with VLC as a file?

Yes. Just copy it off the filesystem or download it through the webui.

I hadn't noticed the download option, so thanks for pointing it out.

As for the filesystem, how would I identify the file I wanted? Are recordings saved under the dvr directory?
