What kind of setup should I have?
Added by Sarah Poulin almost 8 years ago
I recently discovered tvheadend and I am a complete noob. I have an NVIDIA Shield with Android TV and I discovered this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ie.macinnes.tvheadend&hl=en
Live Channels is an excellent app to incorporate channels for a kind of "channel surfing" experience. I have some OTA channels and I'm interested in creating some sort of setup where I can then import these OTA channels into the tvheadend app on Android TV so that they can be imported to Live Channels.
I am a little confused about hardware. I have an antenna in my attic with a coaxial cable that is running into my basement to an input that feeds the rest of the coaxial cable outlets in the house. This input is right beside all my networking hardware (modem and router).
What do I need to do? I know about the Raspberry Pi. Can I create a server with the Raspberry Pie and get some sort of device that has a coaxial cable input and that plugs in via usb into the Raspberry Pi?
What should I do and what sort of hardware do I need? I'm looking for the least expensive option.

The type of receiver you would need with your Pi would depend on what the TV standard is where you are.
