No Live Streaming Video in v4.1
Added by Koop Koop over 8 years ago
Hi I'm trying to setup v4.1 but I am not able to play any videos. Watching live TV working fine in v4.0 for me but I need the EPG for OTA channels in v4.1. My setup is a dual-HDhomerun. I was able to go through the setup wizard with no problem. My config sees the HDhomerun and it easily found the mux and services and I was able to map them to channels. The EPG is pulling all the correct data, but when I click to play a show it pops up the windows for VLC player, but nothing ever plays. In v4.0 the video would play immediately. I tried disabling some of the Stream profiles, but I have no idea what I'm doing. Is there any guidance for troubleshooting this part of the setup? Thanks.

I figured out that if I remove the "/play/" text from the URL then it redirects it to the stream itself and not the playlist. When I do this it asks me if I want to save or open the file (I'm using a Windows computer to access the interface). If I choose to open the file nothing really happens, my Firefox download manager starts to download the file. If I choose to save the file it also starts to download, but then I stopped tvheadend in order to force the download to stop but not cancel. I was left with an unfinished file, BUT I could play it with VLC player (the small segment that I had recorded)! So it's working on some level, but the playing through my web browser seems to be the problem.

By fixing the recording path I am now able to record vidoes! I'm still unable to watch anything live because for some reason the streaming profiles aren't working for me. There are 6 profiles listed and the "pass" profile is set to the default, but I've tried setting all 6 of them to default with somewhat varying results, but none actually produce a video. I'm fairly certain that modifying the settings of these profiles is what I need to do to get this working, but I really don't know what to try, any ideas?

I set the webm profile as the default (something I thought I had tried before) and it works with Plex! I also tried IE and when I clicked to play the channel it asked me to open/save the file so when I clicked "open" it opened VLC (separately from IE) and started streaming video (again, with the webm as default). So that seems to have done the trick. I will say, however that streaming from Plex to a wireless Roku box did have a few buffering interruptions but I tested it with Plex on my wired desktop and it seems to be working fine, so the wireless seems to be the problem there.
I still haven't got it to stream with Firefox (what I usually use). Is Firefox a known issue or any ideas how to make that browser work?
