Merge 2 TVheadend servers?
Added by Ryan J over 8 years ago
Hey all,
I have 2 TVHeadend Servers at home, one gets all my Terrestrial channels from a DVB-T tuner and a few interstate IPTV stations.
The other gets International IPTV channels that require a VPN
If I stay with a single server I will only be able to access either the interstate or international IPTV stations, not both at the same time.
So is it possible to somehow merge the two TVHeadend servers? I have looked at a few TVH clients (Android/Kodi) and they only support one server connection at a time.
Another thought is, my main Server is a Synology NAS box, that has TWO NIC's, can I somehow force a IPTV channel tvheadend to go through a specific NIC?

Import the playlist (IP:port/playlist) from one to the other?

I did think about such a thing,
Going from IPTV -> TVHeadend(1) > TVHeadend(2) -> Player
But wouldn't it degrade the quality of the image by passing it through two servers?

Only if you're transcoding on both..

Thanks for the replies,
I am aware of being able to use two Backends with kodi, i was planning on using AndroidTV but i can always use this method as a fallback.
When i get home at the end of the month i will try setting up another server and passing it through the main server with no transcoding, hopefully there wont be too much lag connecting and swapping between the channels if i ensure its over 1GBps network
