How to avoid annoying flashing overlay probably from EPG?
Added by Karsten Böttjer over 1 year ago
Hello
I spent a couple of hours to understand and configure TV channels on Kodi's IPTV addon and preferably on TVheadend and it looked pretty good.
Maybe I changed an option somewhere, but I don't know what it was. After all suddenly annoying overlays appear in the lower right corner on some TV channels I use with TVheadend. If I use the same stream with the Kodi IPTV PVR addon, these flashing info boxes would not appear. In most cases the box wants to tell me what's next on the program, so I think this might come from EPG.
In most cases it happens with those streams which load chunks for only a couple of seconds. Then the overlay box appears and disappears within only a few seconds which is really annoying.
Anyone got an idea how to turn this "feature" off?
You might see this on the animated GIF here. It happens also with ABC News, CBSN and many others, but not all channels.
Kodi 19.5.0 runs on a RasPI 4 under latest version of LibreElec 10.0.4.
TVheadend Server 4.2 and TVheadend HTSP client 19.0.6.1

Good morning.
Thaks for your advice. My TV set is 13 years old. Network based features are very basic. The TV is definetly not the problem. Maybe I haven't described the problem accurately: it's not the whole picture that flickers. That could come from a broken cable. It's an information box that comes and goes again and again or sometimes stays in the lower right corner like in the GIF I added to my post ("next on TV", "Als nächstes"). Sometimes it would't appear if I rewind the stream vor a few seconds.
The problem affects only channels coming from my RasPi4 running Kodi (no cable or satellite; just internet streams). I use the IPTV Plugin and preferably TVheadend to have the channels recordable. The pop-ups only appeare when the channel comes from TV Headend, not in programs I had added to Kodi's IPTV plugin directly.
I checked all configuration menus for an item like "overlays" and "pop-ups", but there weren't any.
I will keep it like it is now. Although theses channels cant't be watched live with these pop-ups it's quiet useful to have them in TVheadend to record them.
best regards
Karsten

OMG - I found it among Kodi's skin settings. There is a menu "PVR and IPTV" with a setting for "Activate NextOn Popup for live TV". This should be set off, if you don't want to get mad.
Problem solved.

The issue seems to be related to the TVheadend integration with Kodi on your RasPi4. The unwanted pop-ups or information boxes ("next on TV", "Als nächstes") are not due to hardware or cable problems but likely originate from TVheadend settings or how it interacts with the IPTV plugin in Kodi. Since the problem doesn't occur with channels added directly to Kodi's IPTV plugin, it's specific to TVheadend. You might want to delve deeper into TVheadend settings or consider forums/support communities for Kodi and TVheadend to pinpoint the issue. For now, if the main purpose is recording and not live viewing, keeping the current setup can be a practical choice. https://www.mythdhr.ltd/
