Kodi TV Recordings list is empty with Tvh 4.2.4-10, but O.K. with Tvh 4.1-1355 / How to debug?
Added by John Child about 7 years ago
I recently shut-down my locally built Tvh 4.1-1355 and apt-installed Tvh 4.2.4-10 from "https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/deb/ trusty/stable-4.2 amd64 Packages".
I have made some new TV recordings which are listed and play fine from a local browser session (in VLC) but in Kodi the TV Recording list is empty. Live TV Channels & TV Guide works as before.
Could someone please point in me in the right direction to debug this problem. It is quite possible I have set some permissions incorrectly as I am not entirely clear about the Streaming, Streaming profiles, Video recorder & DVR configuration options in the Access Entries page yet. Tvh 4.1-1355 seemed to "just work" in this respect.
Thanks

Make sure the user can "view all" recordings, check access entries.

Hi,
I have similar problem. Only recordings initiated from within Kodi appear in the recordings listing of Kodi. Recordings done by timers created from Tvheadend EPG guide or autorec entries remain absent. The user that the Kodi Tvheadend addon uses has pretty much everything enabled access wise. See the attached screenshot showing the user config and all finished recordings in Tvheadend and Kodi showing the view available for it. Tvheadend seem to work great otherwise. As a VDR user since 2005 I'm happy I made the switch when upgrading my DVB gear. SAT>IP clients work great, Android TV client work great. Also no problem with Kodi watching live channels.
Using Tvheadend 4.2.3 on Ubuntu 16.04, installed from the official Tvheadend APT repository, Kodi 17.5 and pvr.hts 3.4.27.
Any ideas how to debug? I tried enabling access and dvr trace subsystems in the debug configuration that didn't produce anything interesting in the logs.

This looks like a Kodi PVR add-on issue, can you provide the logs from Kodi to confirm?
I assume they all playback fine when watching in vlc (from the webui)?
If you really want to get a full log in tvh, enter "all" in the debugging fields, the log should give you clues - if not open an issue and attach the log for both tvh and Kodi tvh pvr - scrub personal info though.

Thanks for feedback. At Tvheadend side of the recordings is just fine. The recordings are stored on the disk as configured in the DVR profile and watchable over network using the web ui.
I tried to find anomalies in the Tvheadend debug log while all subsystems enabled and/or Kodi debug log while accessing the recordings, but I couldn't figure out any clues. So I opened an issue https://tvheadend.org/issues/4720. Hope it helps, happy to provide any further info and maybe even remote access to the Tvheadend box if it would be helpful to get this sorted.

Mark Hunting: Thanks.
In my case I just needed to enable anonymous user's to "View All" as suggested. If others follow here then note that this option can be found via this path:-
Configuration > Access Entries > select the entry row > Edit > Basic Settings > Video Recorder > pull down > View All

Don't you mean:
Configuration > Users > Access Entries > select the entry row > Edit > Basic Settings > Video Recorder > pull down > (check the box for) View All
I think you left out "Users".

Yes I did miss out the "Users" step. So as Sean says that should be:-
Configuration > Users > Access Entries > select the entry row > Edit > Basic Settings > Video Recorder > pull down > (check the box for) View All
I thought it worth (mis)spelling this all out because I was not familiar with this use of a pull-down menu for accessing diverse options and the default value (HTSP) made me think it was just about protocols and I explored no further.
