Timeshift using up all system RAM
Added by Steve H over 8 years ago
I have TVH installed on the Wetek Play box.
I initially reported a problem on the Wetek forum, where the dmesg logs were filling with :-
[ 745.936394@0] balance_pgdat end zone=1, pgdat_is_balanced=0
[ 745.936528@0] balance_pgdat, nr_reclaimed=8
[ 745.936559@0] balance_pgdat end zone=1, pgdat_is_balanced=0
[ 745.936706@0] balance_pgdat, nr_reclaimed=30
After getting no response there, I've looked into it further, and these messages are generated when TVH timeshift has exhausted the system RAM.
I have configured timeshift to use the disk, not RAM, but still the RAM drops when watching TV, and once below 80M RAM free, the log starts flooding with the above messages.
I first saw this in 4.0.7, and I'm now running 4.1-2047 and the same is still happening.
I've attached a screenshot of the timeshift config.
To prevent my RAM being exhausted, I've now temporarily enabled "On- Demand"
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Why have you set the ram size to 1 instead of zero?

I set it to 1 to see if the RAM would drop by 1M and then settle (which it didn't).
Some software packages, zero represents unlimited, so I simply wanted to give it a value to see what happened.
