Query: Regarding Desrambling Setup

Added by Arshvinder Singh Sehmi about 10 years ago

Hi Team,

Please clarify me, Is descrambling setup descramble complete transponder or single channel once.

Lets say I have a TP 10990 MHz, and it has 5 channels in it. Now, the descrambling setup will descramble single channel of this TP of it will descramble complete TP. (using single CAM/CI Card).

ErSehmi

single channel at a time. if you watch/record multiple channels, each channel will have separate descrambling (simultaneously if your card supports it)

So, what if I am streaming 10 channels, and all are scrambled. Now a user1 starts viewing channel 1, and after sometime user2 logged in and starts viewing channel2?

Did user1 gets an error message, or user2 couldn't able to steal the lock created by user1?

Please suggest!

While browsing this forum, I have found a post:

Descrambling two channels at once 2nd adapter brings up error - No transponder available for subscription

https://tvheadend.org/boards/13/topics/8645

It seems that technically it is possible to descramble multiple channels at once, if one has multi-tuners card. Alex has achieved this successfully.

Please help me on this!

1 dvb tuner can open 1 transponder/mux, each mux have multiple channels
if you use tyner 1 to open 1 mux, you can open each channel in that mux without the need for a new dvb tuner.
if you try to open 2 channels in 2 different transponders/muxes you need 2 dvb tuners

Hi Raymnond,

I want to ask

Lets say I have a transponder 10990 MHz, and it has 5 channels in it. Now, the descrambling setup will descramble single channel of this transponder of it will descramble complete TP. (using single CAM/CI Card).

Hi

it will descramble single channels, in your case with 5 channels it would need 5 sessions to your card.
Descrambling is done pr.channel and not pr.transponder.

Depending on the encryption type (conax, nds etc) a card can only handle some few channels at a time.
In nds 0963 it would probably handle around 5 if you use all the tricks in the book.

0963 - Dcw cycle time 600ms / card processing and delay 90ms = teoretical max number of dcw it will handle.

Hi Raymond,

Thanks for the response.

Do you have any idea about Conax and Conax + SECA encryptions.
The card that I am using is having few channels encrypted with Conax, and others are encrypted with SECA.
Do you have any idea/guess how many channels I can descramble concurrently, using Quad Tuner Dvb-b S Card?

Thanks,
ErSehmi

Hi Arshvinder,

Do you have the setup or are you trying to get a theoretical number? Then best just try...

I can descramble four channels at a time for sure, tested using a dual HDHomerun tuner, with each tuner tuned to a different mux and then descrambling two channels in both muxes.
Adding a fifth channel to watch simultaneous gave some problems, but I am not sure if this is because of the decoding/OSCAM, or because my laptop running VLC couldn't cope with all the streams...

( or theoretically it could be my network: both muxes are transported from hdhomerun to the server, and from there the 4 or more channels are transported to the laptop viewing them. This all uses the same router/switch).

Alex.
