connecting to provider? / no descrambler available

How do I tell if my cline is connecting to the provider? I'm seeing this in the Oscam log:

It looks like it tries to connect then immediately disconnects, but I don't know whether that is expected. If I try to tune an encrypted channel in xbmc using TVHeadend HTSP Client, I get "No descrambler" and nothing different appears in the Oscam log.
